USING CHATGPT IN 2025

Okay girl, grab your cup of coffee and cozy up while we talk. In this day and age, we’ve all heard and seen the power of ChatGPT. But let's be SO real right now. There’s no user manual that captures the magic—and potential pitfalls—of using AI authentically. We want the Women’s Small Business Society to feel authentic in every way. We see many posts submitted that are copied and pasted straight into a post from ChatGPT and then submitted to us for approval. This IS NOT engaging content for our group. This IS NOT helping you reach your people. It’s doing the opposite of that. We strongly feel this is an important and vital talking point. Not only important for WSBS group members, but vital for ANY small business owner.

Today, we’re sharing four UNWRITTEN rules for using ChatGPT as a small business. Let’s dive on in!

1. Humanize Your Inputs

ChatGPT is absolutely BRILLIANT, but it’s important to remember, it’s as good as what you give it. Speak to it like you’d talk to a person on your team. Describe your brand vibe, your audience, and even your quirks. Think of it as teaching ChatGPT to “speak human” so it can truly echo your authentic brand voice.

2. Refine & Reframe

Don’t settle on the first response—AI isn’t a mind reader. Adjust and rephrase your prompts. Ask it to go deeper, be more playful, or simplify. ChatGPT thrives on iteration, and your best content usually takes a few tweaks to find that sweet spot.

3. Watch the Tone

ChatGPT can be conversational, but it can easily slip into sounding super robotic. If something feels off or too polished, don't hesitate to say so! Guide your GPT toward the relaxed, down-to-earth language that resonates with your small business crowd.

4. Think Big, But Edit Small

ChatGPT can generate pages on any topic, but that doesn’t mean you should use all of it. Keep your audience’s attention span in mind! Pull out the golden nuggets and tailor it to your brand—like sprinkling in some sarcasm, humor, or authenticity that’s unique to you.

Conclusion

You may not know this yet, but let's talk about why this matters for small businesses.

Many giant tech companies are leaning into the small business playbook when it comes to connecting with audiences because, guess what—they need to feel relatable. And that’s what we already have down pat. Small businesses are powered by real people with real dreams and a unique vision to share with the world.

With ChatGPT, you’re getting a tool to HELP you speak to your audience, not speak for you. So follow these unwritten rules, and use ChatGPT as the support to your voice—not a replacement.

You might even find yourself getting more posts through the approval process, which is a win for all of us!
